Types of contact lenses
Soft contact lenses
Soft contact lenses are easy to apply and comfortable. This type of contact lens is easy to adjust and stays in place. Soft contact lenses are made from flexible plastic combined with water to allow oxygen to flow through the contact lens and cornea. Soft contacts are used to correct nearsightedness, hyperopia or farsightedness, astigmatism or blurred vision, and age-related loss of close-up vision.
Soft lenses are disposable, and some varieties can be worn for several days before they need to be discarded.
Hard contact lenses
Hard lenses are made from a plastic material called PMMA. By incorporating silicon, hard contact lenses have a little more flexibility and are far more comfortable, although wearers of these lenses can generally feel them all the time.
As they are rigid in construction, hard contact lenses are customised to fit your cornea and often provide clearer, crisper vision as they retain their shape better. They are also more durable as they cannot tear easily and as they do not contain water. A single pair of lenses can last for years with proper eye care.
